Brainiac Double-Din Photos

Lately we’ve been paying a lot of attention to the initial vehicle line-up of our 10.1″ Brainiac snap-in kits, but we haven’t forgotten about our 7″ double-din unit 🙂

We’ve had a lot of requests from our early supporters for the 7″ unit and they are just as excited to see the double-din unit make its way into production as the larger 10.1″ units.  We know that there are a bazillion different makes, models and generations of vehicles out there and we want to make sure we have an offering for everyone.

Both the 7″ double-din unit and the 10.1″ Retrofit Kit provide the same great functionality as our snap-in kits with the ability to be installed in pretty much any vehicle.  All three of our installation options including the 10.1″ snap-in kits, 10.1″ Retrofit kits and 7″ double-din units will be available for preorder at the same time.

Since we haven’t been providing as many updates on the 7″ unit we’ve decided to post up some glamour shots to give you more of a taste of what’s to come.  Just like our 10.1″ unit, we’re still working through the mechanical design for the buttons to figure out exactly if/how we’ll add illuminated buttons or embossed colored symbols.  So for the time being our prototypes have blank button faces.

All of our units have the same 7 buttons to provide a tactile mechanism for input on top of our gesture based controls:

  • Volume Up
  • Volume Down
  • Android App Switcher
  • Android Home
  • Android Back
  • Media Skip Back
  • Media Skip Forward

The two pictures above show the main faceplate of the unit without the double-din rear metal casing or connection clips.  Every photo that we’ve found of other manufacturer’s head units never seem to show the plain old metal box or clips, so we figured we would do the same 🙂

The photographs of the prototype plastics also don’t show the vent openings at both ends of the buttons which will be the location for the in-cabin air temperature sensor and microphone. Below you can see the actual side clips that are used to connect the face plate to the standard sized rear metal casing:

We’re extremely excited to bring our 7″ unit to market as it contains all of the same great features and functionality, just simply in a smaller package.  We’ll be posting up some more pictures shortly as well as some great video footage as we ramp up for upcoming preorders through our Kickstarter campaign!
