STEP 2: Installation

Before You Begin: Tools & Prep

  • Get basic trim tools (plastic pry tools), a screwdriver set, and a 10 mm socket.

1. Remove the factory dash screen.

  • Carefully pry off trim around the factory infotainment screen using the provided packing trim tools.

  • Unscrew the mounting bolts and gently pull the OEM unit out.

  • Disconnect all OEM connectors and antenna plugs.

  • DO NOT DISCONNECT THE CD PLAYER

2. Connect Workshop 12 Harness

  • Remove the original dash clips from the OEM trim and transfer them onto the new unit.
  • Take the Workshop 12 plug‑and‑play wiring harness:

    • It should match the main factory plugs (no cutting or splicing needed).

    • Connect the main harness into the vehicle’s OEM connector that was originally on the stock screen.

  • Connect the GPS antenna, LTE/4G antennas, and the rest of the wires you wish to use from the kit.

3. Mount the New Screen

  • Once all harnesses are connected:

    • Align the new 15.6" screen in the dash.

  • Push the trim piece back into place, ensuring clips seat fully without force.

    • Please ensure no wires are pinned while pushing in the new unit.

STEP 3: Fixing the Console and Reverse Camera (black Console Screen / off-center)

When you open the Console screen or put the truck in reverse, does it show a black screen? If so, read below.

If the reverse camera or console screen is off-centered, proceed to STEP 3.1

BLACK CONSOLE / REVERSE CAMERA ⬇️

  • We highly recommend that you check if you connected the black extension cable, which is the LVDS cable. This cable is only needed for those that have the rear infotainment screen!
  • Make sure you did NOT disconnect the factory CD PLAYER

This is the LVDS cable:

STEP 3.1:  Console Screen zoomed in

This will address these issues:

  • The console screen is off-center
  • The reverse camera is off-center
  • Your console screen is zoomed in
  1. Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Navigate to "System" (top right corner).
  3. Find and select "setting guide."
  4. Then click "Car model AC." Enter the code "666888" and press OK.
  5. On the right side, select each option starting with "22 Silverado 8-inch screen auto A/C." Even if it's already selected, please select it again.
  6. Finally, at the bottom of the page, click "Save and reboot."

STEP 4: Clear All OnStar Bluetooth Connections

Before pairing anything new, you must unpair / forget any previous Bluetooth connections within the console and also on your phone to avoid conflicts.

(only clear Bluetooth that relate to the original truck, such as the GMC IntelliLink or Chevy MyLink)

    1. Navigate to the OnStar Bluetooth Settings:
      • Tap the Four Squares icon on the bottom right (the app drawer).

      • Tap Console

    2. Delete Devices in the OnStar Bluetooth Menu:

      • Tap the phone icon on the top and make sure to click "devices."

      • Delete all devices listed here by tapping the minus symbol (−) next to each name, then click Delete.

Step 4.1: Pair the Screen to the Truck's Original System

This step links the Workshop 12 screen to the truck's OEM audio system.

    1. Open the Console:

      • Tap the Console app icon.

    2. Initiate Pairing:

      • Go to the Bluetooth settings within the Console interface.

      • Tap Pair New Device.

      • Tap the small Bluetooth circle icon on the top left of the pop-up window.

    3. Connect to OEM System:

      • Look for GMC IntelliLink or Chevrolet MyLink in the list.

      • Tap Pair.

      • Tap Yes or OK on the success message.

    4. Set Audio Source:

      • In the Console app, tap on Media.

      • Ensure the input source is set to Bluetooth (GT6-BTD). (This is required to hear audio).

    Step 4.2: Connect Your Phone

Now that the screen is talking to the truck, you now need to connect your phone to the screen.

      1. Open the Bluetooth app on the Workshop 12 screen:
        • Tap the Four Squares icon on the bottom right (the app drawer).
        • Find and Open the Bluetooth App
        • Click on the Paperclip on the top right corner

      2. Open the Bluetooth settings on your cell phone.
        • Open the Bluetooth settings on your cell phone.
        • Search for and connect to the device named WS12-BT.

Please note: The new screen will NOT provide you with a pairing code. Simply press OK or YES when your phone asks if the pin matches.

      Crucial Connection Rule

To ensure everything works correctly, verify the connections match the guide below:

      • Your Cell Phone: Should ONLY be connected to WS12-BT (the new screen).

      • The New Screen (GT6-BTD): Should ONLY be connected to the original truck Bluetooth (GMC/Chevy).

Note: Do not connect your cell phone directly to the truck's original "GMC/Chevy" Bluetooth, or the audio routing will fail.

STEP 4.3 CONNECTING AUDIO THROUGH AUX INSTEAD OF BLUETOOTH

Watch the video below for a full installation guide.

      • Make sure you connect the dummy AUX cable in the factory AUX port (under the center armrest); this will allow you to use the AUX feature.

Please Note: You will not be able to retain the OEM mic when audio is going through AUX. Also, the skip functions on the steering wheel will not work without the steering wheel harness connected.
